A medieval house on Via Cappello

Juliet’s House is a medieval tower house documented since 1351, a few steps from Piazza delle Erbe. It once housed an inn before it came to be linked with the Capulets of the story.

Look at its exposed brick inner façade, its Gothic doorway and trefoil windows, and the balustrade that joins the parts of the house.

A restoration for the legend

The City of Verona bought the house in 1905. Antonio Avena restored it in 1939–1940 in the taste of the time and added the balcony, assembled from 14th-century marble pieces.

Inside, paintings, engravings and sculptures follow the story through art, and the bed used in Franco Zeffirelli’s 1968 film is on display.

A story told around the world

Luigi da Porto’s tale and Shakespeare’s play made Verona the setting of the world’s best-known love story. The house is where many visitors come to meet it.

This history belongs to the place and the people who shaped it. The History page offers a longer introduction, and the timeline gives a short route through selected milestones.
