Explore the green-roofed pavilion, the great basin and the olive groves of the Menara Gardens.

The Almohads laid out the Menara Gardens in 1157 around a vast basin fed by underground channels from the foot of the Atlas. The two-storey pavilion at the water’s edge was completed in 1870 for Sultan Muhammad IV. Step inside for its painted ceilings, then walk the basin for the view back across the water.

Facilities

Facilities can change through the year. Visitors can usually expect:

  • Toilets for visitors.
  • Shaded paths through the olive groves.
  • Places to sit around the basin.
  • Cafés nearby in the Hivernage district.

Travel light, and bring water and sun protection. Ask staff about current arrangements when you arrive.

Accessibility

The Menara Pavilion is a historic building with a steep staircase between its floors. The paths around the basin are wide and mostly level.

  • Check arrangements for your particular mobility or access needs before travelling.
  • If you are bringing a stroller, confirm the current arrangements before arrival.
